Tutelary god of Tyre and patron of Phoenician kings, merchants and colonies, with temples from Tyre to Gades; his death and rising were kept in the spring egersis ("awakening"). Philo of Byblos names him Melkathros "who is also called Heracles 🎨", and from at least the 6th century BCE he was equated with the Greek hero.
