ἀκολούθων τουτωνὶ τῶν σαυτοῦ ἕνα, ὅντινα βούλει, ἵνα ἐν τούτῳ σοι ἐπιδείξωμαι. πάνυ γε. δεῦρο πρόσελθε. Ἕλλην μέν ἐστι καὶ ἑλληνίζει; πάνυ γε σφόδρα, οἰκογενής γε. πρόσεχε δὴ τὸν νοῦν ὁπότερʼ ἄν σοι φαίνηται, ἢ ἀναμιμνῃσκόμενος ἢ μανθάνων παρʼ ἐμοῦ. ἀλλὰ προσέξω. εἰπὲ δή μοι, ὦ παῖ, γιγνώσκεις τετράγωνον χωρίον ὅτι τοιοῦτόν ἐστιν; ἔγωγε. ἔστιν οὖν
whichever one you please, that he may serve for my demonstration. Certainly. You, I say, come here. He is a Greek, I suppose, and speaks Greek? Oh yes, to be sure—born in the house. Now observe closely whether he strikes you as recollecting or as learning from me. I will. Tell me, boy, do you know that a square figure is like this? I do.
