1 Enoch (The Ethiopic Book of Enoch)
← all texts · Grimoires · c. 3rd c. BCE – 1st c. CE (Ge'ez; Aramaic fragments at Qumran)
What this is
The Book of the Watchers and four other books bound as one. Two hundred angels descend on Mount Hermon in the days of Jared — but FIRST they swear an oath, because Semjaza fears he alone will bear the penalty: "let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan." The mountain is named FROM that oath. Then they teach: Azazel metalwork, antimony and the beautifying of the eyelids, costly stones and all colouring tinctures; Semjaza enchantments and root-cuttings; Armaros the resolving of enchantments; Baraqijal astrology; Kokabel the constellations; Ezeqeel the clouds; Araqiel the signs of the earth; Shamsiel the sun; Sariel the course of the moon.
